MDCAT 2023: SHC seeks reply from Centre, Sindh govt

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought reply from the Centre and the Sindh government in the Medical & Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) 2023 case, ARY News reported on Monday. The SHC conducted the hearing of a petition challenging the Sindh government’s decision to conduct the MDCAT exams again after an inquiry into the alleged paper leak. The Sindh government’s lawyer apprised the SHC judge that the MDCAT exams will be conducted again in light of the recommendations by the inquiry committee. Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi remarked that case should be lodged against the perpetrator who leaked the paper. He observed that cases would also be filed on the accused students. He added that the court could not disturb 40,000 students due to seven petitioners. QUETTA: Balochistan Caretaker Minister for Information Jan Achakzai on Saturday said that only three days left before the deadline given to illegal immigrants to leave the country with good grace, ARY News reported. In a statement issued here, he said all arrangements are in the final stages of special holding centers for illegal refugees. Jan Achakzai said the provision of basic facilities including drinking water, food items and other necessary arrangements would be ensured in special holding centers. KARACHI: Customs intelligence has unearthed the tax fraud worth Rs3.5 billion allegedly committed by a private company, ARY News reported on Friday. The Customs intelligence detected a Rs3.5 tax fraud in a company namely HSJI that cleared steel bars by deceiving Customs Collector Hyderabad without paying the taxes and duties. The Customs spokesperson said that the company would have faced fines, duties and taxes worth Rs3.5 billion. ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) would take up Faizabad sit-in review petitions for hearing on November 1. The bench would be presided over by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa. The Registrar’s office of the top court had issued notices to respondents including the Attorney General of Pakistan. KARACHI: In one of the biggest robberies in the city, dacoits looted a house in Karachi’s Sachal area and took away cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth over Rs10 million, ARY News reported on Wednesday. The caretaker minister made these remarks during a meeting with Afghan media delegation. The meeting discussed problems of Afghan journalists, visa issues and other important issues. Speaking during the meeting, Murtaza Solangi said that it was the responsibility of the media to identify the enemies of peace so that the state could defeat them. Solangi held out the assurance that the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would be contacted on the visa issues of Afghan journalists. ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered to present Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief in contempt case, ARY News reported. According to details, the ECP bench issued production orders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned at Adiala Jail Rawalpindi, for indictment in the same case on October 24. KARACHI: First newborn heart surgery has been successfully performed at the Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology (SICHN) Karachi, ARY News reported on Wednesday. The cardiologists of Karachi’s Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology (SICHN) Korangi performed the first newborn heart surgery. KARACHI: A labourer was killed and two others sustained injuries in a deadly fire that erupted at a cotton godown in Karachi on Tuesday, ARY News reported. A cotton godown caught fire in Karachi’s SITE area, leaving a labourer dead and two injured. Police said that the firefighters doused the fire at the godown and the cooling process was underway. Police told the media that there was no major financial loss in the fire incident, however, a labourer lost his life and two sustained injuries. Police officials added that the firefighting team will give its report after the cooling process. The report would ascertain the presence of a functional firefighting system in the godown, they said. As Israel’s military prepares for a ground assault on Gaza, UNRWA, the UN Palestine refugee agency, issued an urgent call on Saturday for Israel to protect all civilians sheltering in the enclave. The statement came as the Israeli-imposed deadline for some 1.1 million civilians to leave the northern part of Gaza, ahead of what is expected to be a major advance into Gaza by Israeli ground forces, expired. “UNRWA shelters in Gaza and northern Gaza are no longer safe.
