PML-N bags NA-79 after vote recount

GUJRANWALA: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured another National Assembly seat following a vote recount in NA-79 Gujranwala, ARY News reported. As per details, PML-N’s Zulfikar Bhindar requested that the ballots be recounted, and the Returning Officer (RO) granted his request. Following the vote tally, Zulfikar Bhindar defeated an independent candidate backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Ehsan Ullah Virk by a margin of 3023 votes. ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister of Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari formed a four-member committee for the conversion of three imported coal-based Independent Power Procedures (IPPs) to Thar coal. According to a notification issued, the secretary of power division would lead the committee while other members included CSO K-Electric Shahab Qadir, Shamsuddin Sheikh, and Director General (Thermal) PPIB Ali Nawaz. The committee has been tasked with coordinating with IPPs and other stakeholders to provide joint bankable technical and financial feasibility studies for plant conversion to Thar coal. Teenage abducted girl recovered, suspect arrested

KARACHI: Karachi police on Friday recovered a teenage abducted girl and arrested the suspect in district West of the city, ARY News reported citing police. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) West Hafeezur Rehman Bugti, the three suspects of the dacoit group entered the house posing as Counter Terrorism Department’s (CTD) officers. The 18-year-old girl and her brother Usman was forced to sit in a car at gunpoint and subjected them to violence earlier in the day. The SSP said that the brother was thrown from a car while the kidnappers took the girl way with them. SSP Hafeezur Rehman Bugti said that they recovered the abducted girl safely within an hour and arrested one the suspects named Zeeshan. The police also claimed to have seized a non-licensed weapon used in the abduction from possession of the arrested accused. KARACHI: Government and private schools reopened on Thursday (today) after an extended summer break, ARY News reported.  According to the details, after the long two-and-a-half-month break, educational activities have resumed, with students attending classes five days a week. On July 23, the Sindh government extended the summer vacations for all schools until August 14 due to the weather conditions. JAMSHORO: A woman and her two children lost their lives after consuming poisonous food in Jamshoro, ARY News reported. According to hospital sources, two children died earlier, and their mother succumbed to the illness. The death toll rose to three. The deceased were the residents of Sehwan’s Khosa Muhalla.
