ECC okays circular debt management plan

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Monday okayed the Circular Debt Management Plan for fiscal year 2024-25 and a sale purchase agreement between Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and SOCAR Azerbaijan for the supply of POL products. Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb chaired the meeting in which several other key agenda items were discussed and decided, a press statement issued here read. The Ministry of Energy (Power Division) submitted the Circular Debt Management Plan for FY 2024-25. The ECC approved the plan, which aims to reduce liabilities in the power sector and enhance financial sustainability. A suspected leak of classified Gaza documents involving an aide to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has jolted Israeli politics and outraged the families of hostages held by Hamas who have been pushing for a deal to get their loved ones home. Details of the case have trickled out slowly because of a gag order. But a magistrate’s ruling partly lifting the order has provided an initial glimpse of the case that the court said had compromised security sources and may have harmed Israel’s efforts to release the hostages. “Classified and sensitive intelligence information was taken from IDF (Israel Defence Forces) systems and taken out illegally,” a ruling by the Rishon Le-Zion Magistrates’ Court said on Sunday, which may have caused “serious damage to the state’s security and posed a risk to information sources”. PESHAWAR: Police on Sunday carried out a raid to arrest the suspects involved in filming and leaking an obscene video of transgender person Dolphin Ayan, ARY News reported, citing police. An official of Peshawar police said that the action was taken jointly with Shabqadar police to apprehend the suspects. The police force raided as many as four hideouts of the suspects who allegedly filmed the obscene video of Dolphin Ayan last year and used it for blackmailing and extortion. Meanwhile, Peshawar police expressed resolve to arrest the suspects involved in harassing and blackmailing the transgender person. A 5.48 metre (18 ft) Australian crocodile that held the world record as the largest crocodile in captivity has died, a wildlife sanctuary said on Saturday. He was thought to be more than 110 years old. Cassius, weighing in at more than one ton, had been in declining health since Oct. 15, Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat said on Facebook. “He was very old and believed to be living beyond the years of a wild Croc,” according to a post by the organisation, based on Green Island near the Queensland tourist town of Cairns. “Cassius will be deeply missed, but our love and memories of him will remain in our hearts forever.” The group’s website said he had lived at the sanctuary since 1987 after being transported from the neighbouring Northern Territory, where crocodiles are a key part of the region’s tourist industry. ATTOCK: The Attock police recovered Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf lawyer Intizar Punjutha, who had been missing since October, from GT Road, Attock, ARY News reported. According to police, the law enforcers signaled a suspicious vehicle to stop on the GT Road but it refused, leading to a brief standoff. The police chased and intercepted the car on which the kidnappers fled, abandoning their vehicle and hostage. Petrol price increased for next fortnight

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Thursday announced petroleum products prices for the next fortnight, hiking petrol and high-speed diesel’s prices, ARY News reported. According to a notification issued here, the petrol price has been hiked by Rs 1.35 to Rs 248.38 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel has been fixed at Rs 255.14 per litre after an increase of Rs 3.85. Meanwhile, the prices of light diesel and Kerosene oil have been decreased. According to the notification, Kerosene oil will now be available at Rs 148.5 per litre after a drop of Rs 4.92. The price of light diesel has been decreased by Rs 2.61 to Rs. 147.51 per litre. Earlier on October 28, the petrol prices in Pakistan were likely to go down further from November 1 amid decline in global oil prices. The fuel prices in the global market had decreased by $1.5 and $2.5 per barrel respectively.
