Audio leak: FIA decides summoning ex-CM Pervaiz Elahi

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is expecting to summon former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi in connection with a probe into the alleged audio leak, ARY News reported on Wednesday. Sources told ARY News that the interior ministry gave go-ahead to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take action against Pervaiz Elahi. The agency is likely to issue a call-up notice to the former chief minister. The decision was taken after the forensic examination of the audio conversation. Sources added that the agency will hand over a written questionnaire to Pervaiz Elahi. While addressing a press conference, Rana Sanaullah played the leaked audio conversation of former Punjab CM Pervaiz Elahi in which he was allegedly talking about managing the courts.

Shopkeeper open fire at assistant commissioner in Karachi

KARACHI: A shopkeeper opened fire at an assistant commissioner (AC) in Karachi when he was visiting his shop to check the milk prices as an ordinary citizen, ARY News reported on Wednesday. The incident took place in Karachi’s Sikandar Goth area. The AC received several complaints against the milk shop owner for profiteering. The AC visited the milk shop alone as an ordinary citizen. After finding the sale of milk at inflated rates, the AC asked the shopkeeper to provide the government price list but his move made the shopkeeper furious. Later, the AC summoned the police to arrest the shopkeeper for profiteering. The shopkeeper immediately closed the shop to avoid the arrest. Police asked the shopkeeper to surrender but he opened fire at the AC. The assistant commissioner narrowly escaped the gunfire unhurt after lying on the floor. Sindh police ban use of smartphones while on duty

KARACHI: Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon on Wednesday banned the use of smartphones by police officials while on duty, ARY News reported. A communiqué sent to all police officers on behalf of the Sindh IGP stated that it had been observed that police officials were using mobile phones while on duty even though “clear directions in this regard have already been conveyed to all field formations”. PTI to kick off ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ from Lahore today

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters have started gathering at Zaman Park, the residence of the party chairman Imran Khan in Lahore, to kick off the ‘Jail Bharo Movement’ today (Wednesday), ARY News reported.  On February 17, former premier and  PTI chairman Imran Khan  announced to start the Jail Bharo Tehreek [fill the jail movement] on February 22. The ‘Jail Bharo Movement’ will begin from Mall Road Charing Cross at 2pm today. On the directions of Imran Khan, as many as 200 leaders and workers will surrender themselves for the ‘Jail Bharo Movement’ today. China tells Japan it is troubled by Tokyo’s military build up

TOKYO: A senior Chinese diplomat told his Japanese counterpart that Beijing was very troubled by Tokyo’s military build up and criticised it for adopting a “Cold War mentality” in their first formal security talks in four years. “To be honest, we have concerns over Japan’s release of its new defence and security documents,” Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong said on Wednesday at the start of the meeting in Tokyo with Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Shigeo Yamada. Car prices jacked up in Pakistan as rupee weakens

KARACHI: Pak Suzuki Motor Company has jacked up the price of cars, citing rupee devaluation against the dollar and shortage of raw materials, ARY news reported. According to details, Pak Suzuki jacked up its car prices by Rs263,000 on the back of increase in power tariffs along with currency fluctuation. It is for the third time in the current year Suzuki has increased prices of its cars. Suzuki’s Alto VX will now be sold for Rs2.144 million following an increase of Rs110,000. The company’s Swift GLX CVT saw a price increase of Rs263,000 and will now be sold for Rs4.725 million. Moreover, the prices of Wagon-R, Ravi and Bolan have increased by Rs180,000 and Rs94,000 respectively. ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has announced to summon former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) director-general (DG) Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed to Parliament, ARY News reported on Tuesday. Speaking to a private news channel, the defence minister pointed out that terrorism incidents in the country did not increase within six to eights months. Khawaja Asif criticised the former ISI chief for visiting Kabul in September 2021, saying that those who brought Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) back to the country should now answer in front of the Parliament.
