Sindh lifts ban on registration of private educational institutions

KARACHI: The Sindh Education Department has lifted the ban on the registration of private educational institutions besides fixing a standard for schools, ARY News reported on Monday. The Additional Director Rafia Javed issued a notification which stated that the minimum plot measurement for pre-primary and elementary schools in suburban areas should be 200 yards. The minimum plot measurement for schools in posh areas of Karachi should be at least 400 yards, according to the notification. It further stated that at least 10 rooms should be available in the RCC building of a school. Moreover, the secondary and O-level schools should be established on the minimum plot measuring 400 yards in suburban areas and 600 yards in posh areas. The school building must have at least 15 rooms. The administration was bound to possess the building map approved by the concerned authorities. 323 illegal connections removed during anti-gas theft operation

ISLAMABAD: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has removed 323 illegal connections during ongoing crackdown and recovered Rs75.4 million from defaulters. The Regional Directorate of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) launched a massive crackdown on the elements involved in the theft of the scarce and precious commodity, which continues unabated. During the ongoing anti-gas theft operations, the raiding teams so far unearthed more than 323 illegal connections and recovered Rs75.4 million from defaulters. NADRA helps Somalia to launch National ID System

MABAD: The Federal Republic of Somalia has launched a national identification system with the support of NADRA Pakistan, a milestone for the ID4Africa movement, which aims to provide all Africans with a digital identity by 2030, ARY News reported. As per details, Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre inaugurated the Somalia National ID on September 16, 2023, during the first National ID conference held by NIRA Somalia in Mogadishu. The event was attended by Somalia’s development partners, including Pakistan, the EU, the World Bank Group, the UK, the USA, Gulf countries, ID4Africa, diplomats, and UN agencies, a press release said on Sunday. Diesel price hike: Goods transporters jack up fares

LAHORE: Goods transporters have hiked fares by 10% following the recent increase in diesel price by the caretaker government. The good transporters association leader Tanveer Ahmed Butt said they are compelled to increase the fare due to the rising cost of fuel. The goods transporters announced an increase in fares by 10% following the ‘hike in diesel prices up to Rs40 per litre in 15 days’. Butt said in a statement that their expenses were jacked up due to the massive hike in diesel prices and added that they are running transport just to keep the country moving. Unemployment will increase if we stop running transport, Tanveer Butt said. India’s Railways dept spends Rs24m to catch 168 rats

LUCKNOW: Catching a rat is no big deal but the Lucknow division of India’s Railways department has spent a staggering amount of INR 69.5 lakh [Rs24 million approximately] to catch just 168 rats.   According to Indian media, the Right to Information (RTI) application directed at the Northern Railways was filed by an activist Chandrashekhar Gaur, who is based out of Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch. In its response, the Lucknow division said it spent INR 69.5 lakh [Rs24 million approximately] between 2020 and 2022 to catch 168 rats, which means INR 41,000 [Rs146,265.20] per rat. Gaur’s had filed an RTI directing the entire Northern Railways, which has five divisions including Delhi, Ambala, Moradabad, Lucknow and Ferozepur, seeking the amount spent on catching the rats. However, only the Lucknow division gave a reply to Gaur.
