RIYADH: Caretaker Prime Minister (PM) Anwaarul Haq Kakar and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman underlined the need for urgent international collaboration geared to stopping Israel from brutal and indiscriminate aggression against the besieged and innocent Palestinians, ARY News reported on Saturday. IMF agrees to Pakistan’s proposal on climate change spending

ISLAMABAD: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) review mission has agreed to a proposal, shared by Pakistan, regarding its spending on climate change, causing vulnerabilities to both rural and urban areas, ARY News reported on Friday, citing sources. Sources told ARY News that the Planning Commission and IMF review mission held talks on climate change and country’s National Clean Air Policy. The Planning Commission shared plans regarding ‘clean energy, electric vehicles and ban on coal imports’ with the review mission. Pakistan submitted a Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in October 2021, aiming to shift to 60% renewable energy, and 30% electric vehicles by 2030 and ban coal imports as well as expand nature-based solutions. Customs seizes cigarettes worth Rs156 million

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Customs in its recent drive has seized 8,157,200 sticks of cigarettes valued at Rs.156 million during the period from October 30, 2023, to November 05, 2023, ARY News reported.  Accordingly, Pakistan Customs had constituted special teams to launch anti-smuggling operations against foreign-origin cigarettes being smuggled into the country, said a news release here on Thursday. Moreover, instructions have been issued to the anti-smuggling formations, including mobile squads deployed at various Collectorates and airports, to maintain constant vigilance on the illicit movement of cigarettes in the country. Instagram to allow users to turn off read receipts in DMs

CALIFORNIA: Meta-owned Instagram has announced that it will soon be introducing the option to turn off read receipts in direct messages (DMs). Similar to what Meta offers on its messaging platform WhatsApp, the new feature will enable users to read messages without the sender knowing that they have seen them. However, Instagram said it is currently testing the feature, although it has not disclosed its plans for a wider roll-out. Both Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, and head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, announced the upcoming changes on their Instagram broadcast channels. In his post, Mosseri said: “We heard your feedback and have started testing a new feature that lets you turn read receipts off in your DMs”. “Soon, people will be able to choose when to let others see when they’ve read their messages,” he added.  Mosseri also included a picture, showing what the option will look like. Two Congo patients shifted to Karachi hospital

KARACHI: Two more Congo cases have been reported in Karachi, of which a patient tested positive and another one has symptoms of the tick-borne virus, ARY News reported on Wednesday. Two Congo patients have been shifted to a private hospital in Karachi. Sources told ARY News that one of the patients tested positive while another patient’s report is yet to be received. Overall 16 patients have been hospitalised on the suspicions of contracting Congo virus, of which 12 patients tested positive and two deaths were reported due to the tick-borne virus. On Monday, a pharmacist of the Civil Hospital infected by Congo virus fever was shifted to Karachi. Another foreign airline shows interest to operate in Pakistan

KARACHI: An American airline has approached Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), expressing its interest in launching flight operations in Pakistan, ARY News reported on Wednesday. Sources told ARY News that Ravn Alaska Airlines is keen to launch flight operations from Pakistan and had contacted country’s aviation authority in this regard. Sources claimed that the American airline has sought the permission of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for Third Country Operator License. It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan is currently struggling with the resumption of flights to the United Kingdom by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
