Bolivia signs $450-mn lithium deal with Russia

Bolivia, home to some of the world’s biggest lithium reserves, signed a $450 million deal Wednesday with Russian state firm Uranium One Group to produce the key battery and electric vehicle components. Under the agreement, the Russian firm’s parent company, Rosatom, will invest in Bolivia over two years to build a pilot lithium plant in the country’s south, said the Bolivian government and Uranium One Group executives. “This agreement follows the production and sales model we are proposing to every company that wants to work with our lithium. We will be participating in every point of the production chain,” President Luis Arce said at the signing ceremony. Bolivia’s 23 million metric tonnes of certified lithium reserves have drawn interest from China and Russia, which have allied with the South American country to launch industrial-scale production. ECP extends visa application date for foreign election observers

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has extended the visa application date for foreign election observers, ARY News reported on Wednesday citing sources. According to sources, the ECP has sent a letter to the foreign ministry regarding the extension of visa application date for international observers. The letter stated that the date has been extended for 15 days, from December 15 to December 31. Sources said that the reason for the extension is to ensure the participation of international observers in the upcoming polls. LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) core committee has demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to allot bat as an election symbol, ARY News reported. As per details, the core committee of PTI has expressed disappointment with delay in the allotment of election symbol saying if bat is not allotted to PTI, it will make the elections non-transparent. The core committee also urged the ECP to ensure a level playing field for all parties before the general elections. The incident occurred in the Indian state of Punjab where a society member spotted the leopard, and the images were taken on the cameras put in the society.
