KARACHI: Sindh Caretaker Finance Minister Younus Dagha has issued directives to clear two-year dues of the government employees in terms of salaries and pensions, ARY News reported on Monday.

Sindh Caretaker Finance Minister Younus Dagha issued orders to pay two-year dues of the serving and retired government employees.

He also ordered to launch a mobile app for improving the services of district treasury offices.

More than 20,000 retired government employees are facing difficulties due to non-clearance of dues for three years.

The minister admitted that there is a shortage of funds in terms of pre-retirement salaries, pensions, commutation and gratuity.

He detailed that the dues of the government workers have soared to Rs36 billion due to the financial crisis.

Moreover, the authorities took action against the workers who have been found guilty of financial irregularities in the district treasury offices.

Four Israeli soldiers killed in accidental explosion in Lebanon

BEIRUT: Four Israeli soldiers who were killed in southern Lebanon were likely killed in an accidental detonation of explosives as they demolished a Hezbollah tunnel laden with weapons, Israel’s Army Radio reported on Monday. The Israeli military said that four soldiers killed in combat, without providing further details. Army Radio said that the incident happened on Sunday and that an initial review found that the detonation set off secondary explosions, leading to the collapse of the tunnel while the soldiers were in it. Agriculture sector sees 6.25pc growth in FY 2023-24

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s agriculture sector witnessed a growth of 6.25 percent as compared to 2.27 percent during the same period the previous year. The Economic Survey of Pakistan read that the agriculture sector in Pakistan witnessed robust growth in FY2024, with an overall increase of 6.25 percent. The rise in production of important crops (16.82%) is attributed to the production of cotton (108.2%, 10.22 million bales compared to 4.91 million bales), rice (34.8%, 9.87 million tonnes compared to 7.32 million tonnes), and wheat (11.6%, 31.44 million tonnes from 28.16 million tonnes). However, sugarcane and maize declined by 0.4 percent and 10.4 percent, respectively, which can be partially attributed to the crop switching. As such, the production of both crops is largely comparable, with sugarcane standing at 87.64 million tonnes against 87.98 million tonnes and maize at 9.85 million tonnes compared to 10.99 million tonnes.
