KARACHI: A woman allegedly involved in selling and purchasing newborns, kidnapped from hospitals and villages, has been arrested from Karachi, ARY News reported.

Kharadar police, in a statement, said that an infant kidnapped from Thatta has also been recovered from the accused woman – identified as Fatima.

The police said that the accused woman had bought the newborn for Rs200,000 from Thatta and came to Karachi with an intention to sell the baby at higher prices.

The police said that the accused woman was arrested by the law enforcers during patrolling. A case has been registered at Kharadar police station under concerned sections of Pakistan Penal Code.

Four Israeli soldiers killed in accidental explosion in Lebanon

BEIRUT: Four Israeli soldiers who were killed in southern Lebanon were likely killed in an accidental detonation of explosives as they demolished a Hezbollah tunnel laden with weapons, Israel’s Army Radio reported on Monday. The Israeli military said that four soldiers killed in combat, without providing further details. Army Radio said that the incident happened on Sunday and that an initial review found that the detonation set off secondary explosions, leading to the collapse of the tunnel while the soldiers were in it. Agriculture sector sees 6.25pc growth in FY 2023-24

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s agriculture sector witnessed a growth of 6.25 percent as compared to 2.27 percent during the same period the previous year. The Economic Survey of Pakistan read that the agriculture sector in Pakistan witnessed robust growth in FY2024, with an overall increase of 6.25 percent. The rise in production of important crops (16.82%) is attributed to the production of cotton (108.2%, 10.22 million bales compared to 4.91 million bales), rice (34.8%, 9.87 million tonnes compared to 7.32 million tonnes), and wheat (11.6%, 31.44 million tonnes from 28.16 million tonnes). However, sugarcane and maize declined by 0.4 percent and 10.4 percent, respectively, which can be partially attributed to the crop switching. As such, the production of both crops is largely comparable, with sugarcane standing at 87.64 million tonnes against 87.98 million tonnes and maize at 9.85 million tonnes compared to 10.99 million tonnes.
